Get To Know H.E.R.

I actually wanted to do an album review today, but found that time wouldn’t allow for it because in a couple of hours I’ll be at Rock The fucking Bells NY. I’ve been listening to A Tribe Called Quest nonstop this whole damn week and I’m excited as hell.

Anyways, instead of the intended review, I’m gonna share with you something that really doens’t have much to do with hip hop, other than the fact that nearly every hip hop fan I know is in love with comic books. I’m sure that all of you have seen the Dark Knight by now (if you haven’t, get out and don’t come back until you have), and now that that’s all seen and done, we gotta look forward and anticipate the next best comic book movie. Here are my top 3 picks, in order of least anticipated to most.

Movie 1: Punisher War Zone
Reason It Could Kick Ass: I thought the first one rocked. Especially considering it was done on a meager $15 million (compared to most other action film >$60 mil budget), it was extremely well executed. I’m excited to see what this could be with a more suitable budget. Besides, rumor has it that the Jigsaw origin scene is going to be pretty epic.
Reason It Could Be A Total Letdown: A bigger budget may mean that the story development gets largely overlooked in favor of random action scenes (think Transformers). Also, the fact that Thomas Jane bailed on the project saying that he doesn’t fully agree with it is a very bad omen.

Movie 2: X Men Origins - Wolverine
Reason Why It Could Kick Ass: It’s Wolverine! That alone is enough to make me have high expectations. Throw in Gambit, Deadpool and Agent Zero and we got a guaranteed good time.
Reason It Could Be A Total Letdown: X-Men 3 was total garbage. They had so many characters and just did not know what to do with them. I’m very worried about repeated mistakes.

Movie 3: Watchmen
Reason Why It Could Kick Ass: One of the greatest graphic novels of all time. If they pull this one off right, The Dark Knight will look like child’s play compared to it.
Reason It Could Be A Total Letdown: The story’s so twisted and in depth, it’s gonna be pretty easy to lose it in translation to the big screen. So either, it’s gonna be the best, or a total dud, I don’t see this movie hitting middle ground.
