My Top 10 Hip Hop Music Videos aka Don’t Want To Review Another Album Today
So before I begin the countdown, I just wanted to say that in addition to N.E.R.D.’s album, there is another new album that came out on Tuesday that I should review before the end of this week. KRS-One’s Maximum Strength came out and totally slipped beneath my radar. Damn, how did that happen? Anyways, this entry is partly for a miss Song, because she happens to be my most dedicated reader/commenter and she doesn’t even like hip hop. So, I figure that instead of reading or skimming through boring (well, at least for her) reviews of albums, this is at least kinda fun. Plus, these videos are just awesome. So that should be reason enough. Let’s begin.
10. Triumph - Wu Tang Clan: The special effects are corny as hell, but I mean that’s all they had back then really. The video and the song are freaking epic.
9. I’m Really Hot - Missy Elliot: Missy’s videos are always great even when her music doesn’t match up. I love the beat change in the middle of this.
8. Rappcats - Quasimoto: Lord Quas aka Madlib gives you Hip hop 101 in 2 minutes.
7. Victory - Puff Daddy ft Busta Rhymes andthe Notorious B.I.G.: Puff had more money than the Wu and therefore this video’s effects came out much cleaner. Eye candy really, and Busta in a feather suit is gold.
6. Man I Used To Be - K-OS: Some nice breakdancing over a great song. The first 20 seconds is really my favorite part of it all.
5. We Know Something - Jurassic 5 and DJ Format: The video has nothing to do with the actual song’s concept but damn it if this isn’t one of the most fun videos ever made. The dancing bear is freaking clutch.
4. Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz ft De La Soul: Gorillaz aren’t strictly hip hop but I think they’re close enough. Besides De La Soul is on this thing. Anyways, the video is a work of art, and it’s supposed to be some metaphor about corporate music and being imprisoned by things like that but you don’t care about that do you?
3. Drop - The Pharcyde: Watch the thing. Something’s not right there. That’s because the whole thing was recorded backwards and what you’re seeing is the footage being rewinded. Trippy as hell but I love it.
2. What They Do - The Roots: Greatest parody video ever. Cracks me up everytime.
and number 1 isssssssssssssssssss
99 Problems - Jay-Z: I usually think Jay’s videos are just a little above average but this one really blew me away. The whole thing was just wow. Although I never really bought that whole Jay-Z being shot at the end was a metaphor for his career and whatnot. We all know what happened to your “retirement” Hov.
Alrighhtttt well that’s all ten. Hope you guys enjoyed it and tomorrow, I’ll be right back on track with a review of Seeing Sounds.
